Wine Tasting and Politics Don't Mix
I just tried leaving a comment on Chrenkoff’s site, but apparently I’m too long-winded.
But, ah hah, I have my own blog. So screw his restrictions! Ah hah! Ah hah hah hah!
Okay, so he said in Conan the Libertairan’s suspect maths:
Fiscal conservatism and social liberalism, combined with a fair dose of star power has been a political winner for Schwarzenegger in California. This formula is clearly the base of his drive to move the GOP “a little bit” to the left and gain that extra 5 per cent of the popular vote. The problem is that the rest of the country is not necessarily like California. I doubt whether the mix of Hollywood glamour and libertarianism would work particularly as well anywhere else in America.
And I tried to say, but couldn’t:
Well, I dunno if he would have lost in a Republican primary, because he did get more votes than the other Republican running, Bill Simon. But a really large majority did vote for Republicans, if you add the two up. And the rest of the country always loves to say it hates California and the weenie lefties within, but California’s always been seen as a preview of what’s to come. If this social program is being tested in Californian schools, people in Oklahoma freak out and call us a bunch of wackos. But five years of less their kids are going through the same thing in Oklahoma.
And Arnie’s very pragmatic. He can be very conservative when he wants to be. Listen to his convention speech. My point is that he knows what basic Republican values are, even if he doesn’t act like it sometimes to get stuff done. And some people jump all over him for being a Liberal in sheep’s clothing, but I always say, it’s California: by our standards, this guy is Ronald Reagan, who, btw, was from California not so long ago, for those who think the rest of the country would automatically discount him for that.
But it’s all a moot point. I don’t think he’d ever get the constitution changed, because he wouldn’t try. He’d let others try for him, but he’d never tie up his reputation and legacy on a failed bid to change the US Constitution so he might run for president. It’s too risky. He’d rather make movies.
Yeah, that’s way over 1000 characters. Slainte.
