(I hate acronyms like SOTU and POTUS, but I needed two syllables to make that work.)
I pretty much have to respond to tonight’s speech, although there isn’t much to say. I thought he did really well, oratorically, that is. The first half of it I thought was a lot more confrontational than usual, even though the talking heads thought he was very conciliatory. I thought he’d be all “We did this that and the other thing with bipartisan support” but it was more “damn you people get the hell with the program” which was needed. But basically he could have done cartwheels and told knock-knock jokes for all I would have cared after this paragraph:
Tonight, let me speak directly to the citizens of Iran: America respects you, and we respect your country. We respect your right to choose your own future and win your own freedom. And our nation hopes one day to be the closest of friends with a free and democratic Iran.
