Abu Ghraib, Out of Our Shameful Hands
Okay, here’s the deal: I can’t find anything I’m interested in posting. The British press is full of Blair vs. Brown, which neither I nor most of the rest of the world could give a rat’s rear end about, or Ian Huntley’s attempted suicide, reaction: same. The American press is just that, the American press. So nothing there either. The blogs are full of Islamists infiltrating everything from jails to the University of Kansas and terrorist attacks from India to everywhere else, but if we’re not going to do anything about any of it, which apparently we’re not, anymore, then what’s the point?
But this, this made my weary blogging self smile again:
Telegraph – Tortured screams ring out as Iraqis take over Abu Ghraib
The notorious Abu Ghraib prison in Baghdad is at the centre of fresh abuse allegations just a week after it was handed over to Iraqi authorities, with claims that inmates are being tortured by their new captors.
Accompanying the story is a large colour photo of a man on Lynndie England’s leash. Oooh!
Conditions in the rest of the jail were grim, with an overwhelming stench of excrement, prisoners crammed into cells for all but 20 minutes a day, food rations cut to just rice and water and no air conditioning.
Some of the small number of prisoners who remained in the jail after the Americans left said they had pleaded to go with their departing captors, rather than be left in the hands of Iraqi guards.
“The Americans were better than the Iraqis. They treated us better,” said Khalid Alaani, who was held on suspicion of involvement in Sunni terrorism.
Well, since the NYT adopted Abu Ghraib in its Adopt-a-Prison drive, I’m sure they’ll be opening up their front pages for the next few months.

Blame the “Relevent experience highly regarded” bullet point in the Help Wanted ad. Not specific enough.
“I have much experience in dealing with prisoner who give trouble. Oh, yes, much experience…. yes, indeed…. very much… experience.”
