Times Online – More terror arrests as hospital links emerge

News that doctors were suspected of planning terrorist outrages was condemned today by the British Medical Association. Dr Hamish Meldrum, the BMA’s chairman, said: “Like others we were shocked to hear of the recent attempted bombings. The news that members of a caring profession may be involved in these atrocities was even more appalling.

“Overseas doctors have made an invaluable contribution to the NHS over the years and it would be dreadful if the trust that exists between patients and doctors, whatever their background, was harmed by these events.”

Now, I may have given it up, but I used to watch a fair amount of ER, and still do watch Scrubs. And doctors tend to play a large part in other television and movie dramas, because their lifestyles tend to lend themselves to easy story lines. They don’t tend to have a lot of time to sit around plotting acts of mass terrorism. They’re usually too busy saving lives, being on call to save lives, snatching a few moments of sleep between saving lives and being on call to save lives and having tumultuous failed romances. So maybe this is a nationalised health care thing, as has been sniggered about elsewhere? NHS funding has gone up so much in the Blair years, and yet it’s all gone towards administrators. So maybe the doctors have nothing left to do because there’s no money for patients so they’re all sitting around waiting for the next budget report? But at least the administrators seem to be busy, since they’re not the ones driving Jeep-bombs into Glasgow airport.

This morning the Muslim Council of Britain gave a press conference in which it too condemned the terror plots and the rise of extremism.

Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari, secretary general of the council, said: “Let us be absolutely clear about this, that those who seek to deliberately kill or maim innocent people are the enemies of all of us.

“There is no cause whatsoever that could possibly justify such barbarity. Those who engage in such murderous actions and those that provide support for them are the enemies of all, Muslims and non Muslims, and they stand against our shared values in the UK.”

Quick, some journalist! Ask him what he thinks of the Jooos!

Dr Daoud Abdullah, the deputy general secretary, told the meeting: “There is a radicalisation taking place in our communities and this is a long term problem. We will work together with our partners in civil society, including the police and other faith groups.”

Hmm.
