Where Healthy People Go to Die
Instapundit has a long post on hospital care:
I still want to do an experiment where you take healthy 20-somethings and put them in a hospital for a couple of weeks, then evaluate their condition upon release. I think we’d be appalled at the change.
My grandmother was always telling me that David Packard went into Stanford with a sore knee (or something) and ended up dying two weeks later of pneumonia. She hated hospitals. And she’s got a point.
They’re too cold, for one thing. And she used to tell, eyes wide with horror, of a nurse coming in with a cup of water for my grandfather on one of his stays there, pinching the cup between her thumb and first two fingers, the fingers on the inside of the glass. She made the woman go away and bring back a new glass.
