San Gregorio Beach, after a terrific drive over from Menlo Park via Portola Valley.
They didn’t have this trailer at the Australia movie, did they?
Worth seeing? For those without girl crushes on Nicole Kidman, I mean? The first trailer I saw this summer was just gorgeous and made me long to see it. The trailers on tv make it seem like just one damn thing after another. Your opinion could be the tipping point.
The local lads are frothing about the ridiculous “stolen aboriginal children” slur. I’ve only seen reviews – all bad.
Yeah, I dunno, Nicole Kidnan was great, natch, and Hugh Jackman as well, and all the aboriginal stuff was super cool, and I love Baz Lerman’s “thing”, but all year and longer they’ve been playing up this picture as the epic the continent has always deserved, so I thought it would be a lot of A Man, A Woman, and A Heard of Cows, with all the panoramas, then the modern age suddenly interfering with the bombing of Darwin, which even my WWII-junky dad never knew happened, but then they end up spending a lot of tim on the stolen generations, and, sorry but I’ve aleady seen Rabbit Proof Fence, and I was there to see Nicole Kidman. And maybe the story of those crocodile handbags, if y’know whadda mean. It’s like ol’ Baz saw whassizsface apologize to the stolen generations and was so overcome with inspiration he decided to shoe-horn in a whole story of woe on top of the one he had.
It’s still a good movie, tho, and Nicole Kidman’s wunnerful.
Yeh, the Japanese bombed the crap out of Darwin. Plans were made to withdraw to a defensive line just north of Brisbane, but thanks to pressure from our American allies (sniffle) it never had to be implemented.
