I’m in Edmonton, Alberta, today, for one of my aunts’ surprise 50th birthday parties, and because next week my grandmother’s going to undergo a little health-related thing, and it’s a nice time to make an appearance at a family gathering, in a place conveniently serviced by airports! (That isn’t always an option, with my family. We tend to spread out.)

Anyway, the internet’s a wonderful, ubiquitous thing, but Rogers Wireless is run by a bunch of fascists so I shan’t be using my phone, and I don’t know how many wireless spots I’ll travel through, so I’m leaving this as a placeholder. Talk amongst yourselves, I’ll be home tomorrow (Sunday). In the meantime, here’s some stuff I just cannot find the time to blog about properly:

The Times – Thank You, Kuwait
Key support offered by the Arab Emirate shaped the course of the Iraq War

Telegraph – Gordon Brown’s assault on the traditions of the monarchy is preposterous
Hands off the heads that wear the crown, says Andrew Roberts.

Telegraph Blogs – Holy Smoke: Brown’s plan to amend the Act of Settlement is an attempt to neuter Catholics, by Damian Thompson

One Cosmos – Postmodern Man: The Eunuch at Every Wedding, the Corpse at Every Birth (this guy has the most punnerifically amazing blog description in his header)

The Brussels Journal – What Caused Rome’s Collapse: Immigration or Centralisation?

Curtsy: Vanderleun’s twitter, for those last two.

Telegraph Blogs – Iain Martin: President Barack Obama – 10 reasons POTUS should learn to love Britain

The Times – War, pestilence. And your problem is shopping?
The anti-consumer brigade thinks there is a fairer, more rational, alternative to capitalism just round the corner. There isn’t, by Daniel Finkelstein

The Times – Pregnant women never drink alone
Mothers-to-be are allowed to raise a glass or two, by Helen Rumbelow

And horses:

The Times – A sure-hoofed way to control the mobs
If humans are so clever, why do we rely on the least aggressive of animals to do our patrolling?By Melanie Reid

In Philly one year (the Republican convention? An Iraq war protest?) the thug Liberal hippies cut up a couple police horses so bad they had to be put down. It was disgusting.
