For this, and other fairly obvious reasons, doctors in non-socialist systems are held in the highest esteem by their community. I have seen it myself that the esteem enjoyed by independent doctors is a cause of abiding jealousy in politicians, who enjoy a rank in the eyes of the public somewhere below that of used-car salesmen.
Ii wouldn’t underestimate the motivating power of such primordial emotion – especially in the left, which has to turn off its higher reasoning functions and rely on anecdotes about second hand teeth to try and counter rational argument.
