I’m Reading Biggles
To be strictly accurate, I’m reading the foreword by the author to the first book. He’s telling truth-is-stranger-than-fiction tales about the RFC. My eyes are wide like saucers at his attitude.
Anyone ever read this series? Red? Brett? Half (although it’s rather less nautical than your usual fare)?

Yes, a long time ago. You read one, you’ve read them all, but good, rollicking fun!

Biggles was a staple of my reading from age 8 to 11. I can still name most of Biggles’s squadron from “Biggles Sweeps the Desert” set in 1942. There’s Biggles, Ginger, Algy, Bertie, the Cockney pilot “Tug” Carrington, the American “Tex” O’Hara. THe squadron engineer was of course a Scot, Angus Mackail. I also read one of his space stories, the name of which escapes me. Together with Anthony Buckeridge and Henry Treece he was one I read as much of as I could until I discovered The Master, PG Wodehouse.
