We annually have a nest or two of these critters up in the oaks. Thet can make the most bizarre and often unsettling noises. There is one particular call that sounds like a crying baby. I prefer my more settled and relaxed Great Horned Owl neighbors.
Oh man I love owls. One of the things you learn to do in elementary school around here is to walk around in the open spaces finding owl pellets. Which is oddly satisfying. But I don’t think I ever hear them. Just mourning doves, which are rather lovely (and the spitting image of passenger pigeons, fyi).
