I don’t think I’ve ever been this far south on highway 1 before. Here’s a little scene from our drive down from Carmel:
It is said that the ghosts of HST haunt the Big Sur in the form of giant bats, have you seen one?
I did NOT see a giant bat! Of course it was raining SO HARD for quite a lot of the trip that they’d probably have been shot out of the sky. I did see a banana slug tho! A nice fat juicy one!
Actually, there weren’t a lot of wildlife sightings at all, really. I mean, the big fat lazy seals snoozing on the beach, and the occasional hawk just kind of groovin’ in an updraft above a sea wall waiting for something delicious to show up, but not much else.

Oh Lord are we sure we’re the top of the heap? I mean having a nice computer monitor is swell, but kinda groovin’ in an updraft well now, heroic mine canary goes in heaven maybe?
Did you have handy optical help? Could you see if maybe these hawks were wearing stylish and affordable ear-buds? Heaven might be an existence as an Osprey nesting in the attic of a worn down sea-side library, with a Nano. Eating mullet all day, groovin’ in the updrafts until time to hit the books.
One of the things my old company did was build Osprey nests on tops of faux-utility poles in the hope of keeping them off the McCoys. Worked sometimes, but I think they liked the hum of the real deal, or perhaps it was the easy cable and internet access.
