The Times, my mental home-away-from-home (and let’s be honest, I follow so many of them on Twitter, I spend most of my day with its columnists gathered around my mental table, laughing and carrying on, even if I just lurk quietly in a corner chair), is having layoffs. No one’s mentioned it, not really, but there have been oblique references made on Twitter, and even the newspaper’s chief copy editor is apparently out, who has always hilariously sat in judgement on all their typos.

I don’t know who any of the others are, but I do know that The Times loses something like 50 million quid a year (hyperbole? fact? anyway a lot of money), and what with the NoTW gone, it has only The Sun to support it anymore, I suppose.

Anyway, I don’t know what’s going on, but I love this paper and the idea of layoffs fills me with unutterable gloom.
