Tonight’s film choice was Contagion. Three observations worth sharing:
1. The first thing to fold are the unions. When society breaks down, it’s because the nurses strike and the drivers strike and the pilots strike and so on.
2. The thing that keeps going, and both these things are explicitly shown, are nuns. A tender scene of a nun nursing a dying man while Kate Winslet watches right after the scene where they explain that they can’t evacuate Kate Winslet because there’s no transportation or nurses because they’re all on strike.
2.b The military keeps going too, but I suppose they would do, eh.
3. Every time I watch a Marion Cotillard movie, I always end up spending 200 minutes whispering to Peter if he doesn’t think I should cut my hair?
