Something Interesting Is Going On In the Home Remodeling Business

We’ve been talking to these dudes, right, for redoing the house we just bought (kitchen, bathrooms, all unfortunately but lovingly done in the 90s). And the topic has come up of lead paint. One guy, a nice guy, quick to laugh, just became very quietly angry, tried to shrug it off, then said it was [...]

I Have Met With THREE Contractors

And a fourth one perhaps next week.

Anyone know if there are any good tells to look for that they’ll disappear halfway through the job and leave you with no functioning sinks and a mountain of broken concrete in the yard? Like maybe a narrowing of the eyes? A twitch of the hand? An expensive pair [...]

There’s a Very Large Balloon In Here

It’s shaped like a bird. It’s at least three feet long from beak to filagreed tail.

Been to the zoo, been baking a cake, been taking the day off. Tomorrow: house stuff!

I’ve Left the News Until 10.30 So Instead I’ll Tell You More About the House

Friday, LUNCHTIME: The house gets listed.

Friday, LUNCHTIME: Our real estate agent calls us. Both of us. I’m at Peter’s work for lunch so we’re there together. We agree to meet her at 4.30 that afternoon.

Friday, just after LUNCHTIME: I drive past the house on my way home. I don’t see it. But I’m also [...]

Hmm, So I Think We Just Bought a House

Further updates as events warrant. When the inspector finds the indian burial ground in the basement, for instance.

Happy Fourth of July Four Day Weekend!

Ahh, the Glorious Fourth. What are we doing today? Well, I don’t think Seattle does a parade. There used to be two fireworks displays but the economy’s cut that down to one (and only after a last-minute intervention from Microsoft which probably won’t be repeated next year (Seattle’s useless at doing anything without corporate sponsorship [...]

We Looked At a House Today

…Being sold by an ex-Navy pilot with a Thai wife. He’s young and handsome (40, maybe?), she’s young and pretty. He has Navy citations and photos of jet fighters on the wall of the dining room, she has pictures of herself graduating from university in Thailand and her diploma from USC in the office.

He [...]

Today Was Mostly Spent Trying to Read Lost Recaps

…and failing.

I also got into another fight with a little twerp at work. God what an ass he is. More house hunting duties. And my mother’s been visiting.

And lo, my Google Reader gets more and more backed up.

We Flirted With Buying a Project House Today

Built in 1927, it’s been owned for over 50 years by only the second owners ever in its history, named Gertrude and Abel. How cute is that?

It could have been Peter’s Dream House, and I could have been Myrna Loy.

Love Your Optometrist

I’ve had a very bad day. One of those days where, all things considered, I really just shouldn’t have gone outside. But at the end of it I had an eye appointment (which I was late for (just to pile on)), and my optometrist always cheers me up.

Plus he let me look through his little [...]

I’ve Been At the Neurologist

Baby’s 10 months old today, and had her neurologist appointment. And everything seems to be going very well but I’m superstitious so I’ll shut my mouth now.

Peter took the day off and spent about six hours washing and claying and waxing (three coats!) my new car.

It was a good day.

Giving Thanks For My Medicine Cabinet

Do you all remember a couple years ago when I was home when my grandmother was passing and I got a really awful case of poison ivy? I got some topical cream from the doctor, but by the time I got to see her it had almost finished cycling through the awfulness.

Of course I never [...]

So, I Stepped Out Onto the Lanai…

…because the line so amused Half last time…

Our plane left at 8.30 this morning, shaved a half hour off the flight time, and we landed at 11. We were in the rental car by quarter to noon, and at the condo (after stopping at Safeway for coffee/filters/milk/bottle of wine) by 1. Amazing. Some people aren’t [...]

Not So Epic Discovery

This isn’t exactly new to any of us (certainly not to me), but getting old sucks. Went to say hi to baby’s great grandpa, who was discharged yesterday, and the tummy troubles continue.

Anyhoo, over ‘n out.
